Description

The best, rarest pair of silver Sabbath candlesticks I have ever seen. 11.7 inches in height, each stick weighs 13.9 ounces. Dates to circa 1850 from Poland.
Condition: No splits or repairs, however the top of one built-in bobeche is a bit bent, and there is a bend to the bottom of one of the sticks. These are easy repairs with a good metalsmith. Now, why are these sticks so great? 1)The age. These are not late 19th century, but circa 1860, because of the "12" hallmark. 2)The maker. Obvious Jewish maker "A. Goldman", who marketed these sticks to the millions of Jews living in Poland at the time. I cannot find anything about A. Goldman, but a different maker, "Isaac Goldman", as seen in the last photo. 3)The weight. These candlesticks, especially the lower shaft part, are made of VERY THICK SILVER. When you hold these in your hand, and hold a typical late 19th - early 20th century pair of silver candlesticks from Poland, you'll be in shock how much heavier these are then the typically found other types. 4)The bottoms are original as you can see, there was no cement filled into the bottoms and then covered with cloth/velvet. These candlesticks are the same as when they were made. 5)The craftsmanship. From the ribbed/paneled tops to the detailed bands of decoration, the work is just beautiful.
