Description
A pair of Georgia State Seal Buttons still attached to Butternut Jacket pieces.A Rare Find Indeed.
Found in the early days at what they call "The Measles Camp" in Centerville, Virginia.
Many Georgia contracted the measles during the winter of 1861-62,
Their uniforms were burned or buried to help prevent the spread of the disease.
Never been cleaned!!!!
Notice in the pictures where a small bit of normal excavated button crude flacked off revealing that these untouched buttons are loaded with Gold.
A ONE OF A KIND FIND FOR YOUR COLLECTION.
Both buttons were found together, thus they get sold together.
These buttons these to be Albert's # GA 1.
Also note: Buttons are still fastened through the button holes in the fabric...this means the jacket was buried buttoned up... maybe removed over a sick soldiers head.
