Description
This is a Deagan Special model 1528 "Flat Top Bells" glockenspiel / orchestra bells in a folding case. According to the Deagan Resource this model was produced 1910-1920. The stamp in the case lists patents as late as 1919.It is in working condition except for two easily replaceable parts: 1) The wooden support block for the upper manual is missing on the right side, and 2) The wooden rod that retains the upper manual when the case is closed is missing. A full restoration would involve bar refinishing, replacing the rubber grommets, and replacing the case veneer and handle.
The bars are exactly 1" wide and 3/8" thick. The low G is 9" long and the high C is 3 3/4" long. Tuning is low pitch, A=440. Most of the bars have pitting and corrosion in spots.
As mentioned above, the wooden support block on the right side is missing, but it should be easy to replace. The wood bar that retains the upper manual when folding the case is missing (see picture at the link below for reference). The rubber post isolators are missing. Without the retaining bar and rubber isolators, the bars on the upper manual tend to fall off when closing the case.
The veneer of the case is chipped and peeling in places. The handle is missing. Overall the case feels solid.
